• Koricancha, meaning Golden Enclosure, considered the most important religious complex of the Inca Empire. Here you will find temples dedicated to various Inca deities, such as the Temples of the Sun, the Moon, the Stars, the Rainbow, Lightning, and its royal garden. According to chronicles, this garden was decorated with life-size images of animals and plants made of solid gold, which were later discovered by the Spanish.
The cathedral, an important colonial building, houses a large collection of colonial-era paintings belonging to the Cusco School of Art. After learning about its history, we will visit the next Inca site.
• Saqsayhuaman, a temple dedicated to the sun, features enormous cyclopean constructions and intricate stonework reminiscent of other wonders of the ancient world. It is also the site where, every year in June, the Inti Raymi festival, the most important celebration dedicated to the Sun God, is held.
Qenqo means Labyrinth. This archaeological complex was an important huaca (sacred place) where various Andean ceremonies took place. It is located a few minutes from Sacsayhuamán, beneath an outcrop of rocks carved into various shapes, such as altars, windows, and staircases.
Pucapucara means Red Fortress. This multifunctional site offers a breathtaking view from its platform. It contains residential areas and storehouses and was a strategic point for monitoring and controlling travelers entering or leaving Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire.
Tambomachay is a temple dedicated to water. Its well-preserved and functioning fountains can still be seen here. According to chronicles, the Inca and his family rested here after their administrative duties.
